I went through this phase where I thought pink and purple matched. To dance class, I'd wear purple tights and pink leg warmers and paint my shoes purple. It was really odd. |
Gilbert K. Chesterton |
The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective. |
Charles Edwards |
'Be comfortable with who you are', reads the headline on the Hush Puppies poster. Are they mad? If people were comfortable with who they were, they'd never buy any products except the ones they needed, and then where would the advertising industry be? |
Charlie Sheen |
I have to tell them that last night was a shameful train wreck filled with blind cuddly puppies. |
Paul Farmer |
You can't have public health without working with the public sector. You can't have public education without working with the public sector in education. |
Homaro Cantu |
Whether you are new to the scene or a long-time grillmaster, everyone has unique preferences when it comes to their cooking method of choice. From propane to charcoal to wood, people take their method of grilling quite seriously, and some argue quite passionately about the pros and cons of each method. |
Anne Fadiman |
The problem with the literary hothouse of New York City is that people spend so much time looking in the mirror. They go to parties with people who are just like them, and they write novels about people who are just like them. It's limiting. |
Maria Bamford |
I'm sort of shy, and Twitter feels like chatting all day with a group. I like to follow people. I'm following Joel Osteen, Steve Martin, and an anonymous purple egg - just to see where they go with it. |
Charles Edison |
In view of our public pledges, we public officials can never again go before the public merely promising election reform. The time for promises is past. |
John Abbott |
I hate politics and what are considered their appropriate measures. I hate notoriety, public meetings, public speeches, caucuses and everything that I know of which is apparently the necessary incident of politics - except doing public work to the best of my ability. |

Some things in this article are poorly defined or supported. Overall, I think it's an obvious claim and that people's immense existential insecurity is what keeps religion alive. That and over-generalization and misattribution of observations and patterns.
"Its advocates would be well advised to stop fabricating an enemy out of religion, or insisting that the only path to a secure future lies in a marriage of science and secularism" - what is a "secure future"? Yeah, there are some famous people listed in the article, but I think most scientists stay out of this stuff. There are so many scientists that are religious. People compartmentalize. ...

I grew up with a tape of Halloween music filled with such classics as The Monster Mash, Ghostbusters, I Put A Spell on You, Purple People Eater, Adams Family etc. Thanksgiving music though I'm admittedly less familiar with.

I had some dream that I was in a friend basement and we all came upstairs and someone else I knew was there in like... a purple onesie and we all ran outside and were throwing gourds up in the air and trying to catch them and more people kept showing up to do the same thing. Peoples parents showed up and they had more gourds... too many gourds.

I had a dream that I kept forgetting to put my mask on and I was walking around in public and people thought I was crazy but really I was just forgetful.

Yeah. In my experience as a software engineer, managers met with the engineers to discuss what the best architecture options were, because both parties were aware they had incomplete knowledge as far as coding/project goals.

Oh wow I just re-read this. Good idea, past Charlie. I can add the 'post as anonymous' option without having to make everything public. Then you just have to have an account to post anonymously and if I want to make it public later, I can do that too.
