Mozilla Releases Open Source Speech Recognition Model, Massive Voice Dataset
Mozilla's VP of Technology Strategy, Sean White, writes:
I'm excited to announce the initial release of Mozilla's open source speech recognition model that has an accuracy approaching what humans can perceive when listening to the same recordings... There are only a few commercial quality speech recognition services available, dominated by a small number of large companies. This reduces user choice and available features for startups, researchers or even larger companies that want to speech-enable their products and services. This is why we started DeepSpeech as an open source project.

ive been overly paranoid lately about my political voice. through all the internet posts and facebook, they can put a pretty decent picture together of somebody, even if its wrong. but as a computer security nerd, an advocate for encyrption and privacy, and also a loud mouth about politics and our government, i am more and more afraid and conscious of what i post to not add to this permanent record or confuse anyone into thinking i have VIOLENT intentions of any kind. i post a lot on thinklynx about this just cuz its lowkey enough that its not being targeted like that lol

California Bans Default Passwords on Any Internet-Connected Device (engadget.com)
In less than two years, anything that can connect to the internet will come with a unique password -- that is, if it's produced or sold in California. From a report:
The "Information Privacy: Connected Devices" bill that comes into effect on January 1, 2020, effectively bans pre-installed and hard-coded default passwords.
