I was watching TV one day, and there was this open casting call for extras, and my brother says, 'You wanna try out for this movie?' and I said, 'No, I'm okay.' And then he said, 'Do you wanna be on a DVD?' And I said, 'I wanna be on a DVD!,' so I tried out. |

In the US, there is basically one party - the business party. It has two factions, called Democrats and Republicans, which are somewhat different but carry out variations on the same policies. By and large, I am opposed to those policies. As is most of the population. |
H. G. Wells |
The New Deal is plainly an attempt to achieve a working socialism and avert a social collapse in America; it is extraordinarily parallel to the successive 'policies' and 'Plans' of the Russian experiment. Americans shirk the word 'socialism', but what else can one call it? |

I have been definitely influenced more by Latin American writers than by any other type of writer. They are very close in terms of voice - their humor, their fatalism, their... well, that over-used term 'magical realism.' It's a wonderful term that's just been used so much, we don't know what it means anymore. |
Glenn Danzig |
People don't realize that they're being played by the Democratic Party and the Republican Party, but more so by the Democratic Party because the Democratic Party does not want another party in there. |
Roman Abramovich |
In my personal opinion, Russia is no less democratic than it used to be. It is a democratic country. It is democratic enough. |
Lucy Hale |
I overanalyze things way too much, to the point where it affects my life. Like, when I'm talking to a boy, I'll overanalyze a text message he sent. And I have to think to myself, 'Just chill out. Some guy sent me a text message. That's all. Don't read something into it that's not there. Just be glad he sent you a text message!' |
Jonathan Haidt |
I think Republicans need to take income inequality more seriously. Not because I favor equality of outcomes. I do not. I think the Right is correct to stress merit and earned rewards, not handouts and forced equality. But I think what Republicans are blind to is that power corrupts. |
Vanilla Ice |
Listen, if you don't talk big game, you never get anywhere. If you don't think big, you don't get big. Some people call it egotistical, some people call it high hopes, some people call it confidence. It's all in how you want to dissect it. |
Karel Capek |
Be these people either Conservatives or Socialists, Yellows or Reds, the most important thing is - and that is the point I want to stress - that all of them are right in the plain and moral sense of the word. |

I had a dream that I was supposed to teach and I thought it was one class but then I walked in a minute before it started and asked who was there for this other class and they all raised their hands, so that's when I realized I was supposed to teach a different class. I had to go to another room to get my stuff and I knew I would be late and I was trying to figure out what to teach as I was walking to get my stuff and back to the classroom.

There's a built-in Trump exemption in Twitter's new abuse policy that will allow the president to keep tweeting
Twitter started enforcing new abuse policies Monday by suspending accounts that violate the terms. The policies do not apply to government accounts. That means even though Trump has technically violated Twitter's abuse policies in the past, he is exempt from the new rules.
Even though...

I'm not sure. I do think its more likely that those born in money have an attitude that they're family is smarter and harder working than the less fortunate. But they certainly didn't make their fortune giving money away. But those who don't have money probably don't share their money either. But I think they would better understand what being in the bottom of the 99% lives like.
It really comes down more to how one was raised. People who are raised well are just good people. You don't see shitty snobby kids from parents that teach lessons and enforce boundaries. ...

Some decisions are consequential and irreversible or nearly irreversible -- one-way doors -- and these decisions must be made methodically, carefully, slowly. ... If you walk through and don't like what you see on the other side, you can't get back to where you were before. We can call these Type 1 decisions. But most decisions aren't like that -- they are changeable, reversible -- they're two-way doors. If you've made a suboptimal Type 2 decision, you don't have to live with the consequences for that long. You can reopen the door and go back through. Type 2 decisions can and should be made quickly by high judgment individuals or small groups.

Researchers Are Working With NASA To See If Comedians Help Team Cohesion On Long Space
An anonymous reader quotes a report from The Guardian: [R]esearchers have found that the success of a future mission to the red planet may depend on the ship having a class clown. "These are people that have the ability to pull everyone together, bridge gaps when tensions appear and really boost morale," said Jeffrey Johnson, an anthropologist at the University of Florida. "When you're living with others in a confined space for a long period of time, such as on a mission to Mars, tensions are likely to fray. It's vital you have somebody who can help everyone get along, so they can do their jobs and get ...

I want more cookies, but I really don't want more cookies. My ratio of real food to cookies an ice cream is embarrassingly low if you look at my last 24 hours. Also, I skipped class for the first time this semester to work on 545, and I feel kind of bad about it. Not because I didn't have a good enough reason, but because I believe it's important to be present in class, and I wish I had budgeted my time better so I could have gone to lecture.

Stephen King’s 20 Rules for Writers
1. First write for yourself, and then worry about the audience. “When you write a story, you’re telling yourself the story. When you rewrite, your main job is taking out all the things that are not the story."
2. Don’t use passive voice. “Timid writers like passive verbs for the same reason that timid lovers like passive partners. The passive voice is safe.”

its important we take the word 'need' out of our vocabulary when it comes to money. we dont need money in any form, and saying so even when we dont mean it, ingrains it into our mind. however, despite wanting the money that i get from my job - i cant help but feel like i have something better to be doing

Seems like they only put money and effort into working on the parts where they ask for my credit card instead of trying to make a useful platform that people actually like.
