The Cornell Note-taking System
1. Record: During the lecture, use the note-taking column to record the lecture using telegraphic sentences.
2. Questions: As soon after class as possible, formulate questions based on the notes in the right-hand column. Writing questions helps to clarify meanings, reveal relationships, establish continuity, and strengthen memory. Also, the writing of questions sets up a perfect stage for exam-studying later.
3. Recite: Cover the note-taking column with a sheet of paper. Then, looking at the questions or cue-words in the question and cue column only, say aloud, in your own words, the answers to the questions, facts, or ideas indicated by the cue-words.
4. Reflect: Reflect on the material by asking yourself questions, for example: “What’s the significance of these facts? What principle are they based on? How can I apply them? How do they fit in with what I already know? What’s beyond them?
5. Review: Spend at least ten minutes every week reviewing all your previous notes. If you do, you’ll retain a great deal for current use, as well as, for the exam. |

A good column is one that sells paper. It doesn't matter how beautifully it is written and how much you admire the author... if it doesn't sell any papers, it's not a good column. It's a terrible yardstick to use, but in the newspaper business, that's the whole thing. |

Plays are always about intense relationships, whether they're intense love relationships or family relationships or existential relationships. |

If we eat any food, or drink any beverage, we must recite a blessing over them before and after. |

During my freshman year at Cornell, I joined my dorm's intramural football team. At the first practice, upper classmen pointed out I was tall, so I should try playing QB. Well half an hour later, it was abundantly clear that I should not be the QB. |

I wanted to play piano, and that slid quickly into writing - it wasn't enough to play other people's notes: I had to write notes too. |

We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force. |

Always in all my books I'm trying to reveal or help to reveal the hidden greatness of the small, of the little, of the unknown - and the pettiness of the big. |

Hence my obstinate emphasis on stylistic continuity from work to work rather than specific sibling relationships between the individual work and other members of its stylistic 'family' in the world outside. |

I started realizing that music is the one area where I've always let go. When that saxophone goes into my mouth, I get into a space where I never think about the notes I've already played or anticipate the notes ahead. |

Science fiction is any idea that occurs in the head and doesn't exist yet, but soon will, and will change everything for everybody, and nothing will ever be the same again. As soon as you have an idea that changes some small part of the world you are writing science fiction. It is always the art of the possible, never the impossible. |

Qualtrics doesn't let you force a response on all questions. Pretty lame, right? What am I supposed to do when I generate a survey for crowd-sourcing but I don't want to manually go through hundreds of questions to add validation?
Well, here is the hacky solution. 1. Set validation on one question. 2. Export the survey. This downloads the survey as a QSF file. 3. Open QSF file in a text editor and find the validation you set for that one question. ...

I don't disagree with that, and we did make an effort to be prompt in responding to questions on Piazza. The attitude was more the problem. It certainly wasn't everyone, but a small fraction of rude/entitled students in a 200+ person class is enough to be felt. They seemed to forget that we're also students and have other responsibilities as well.

Long post but I need advice from you, Lynxe(r?)s.
Last week some time I got an envelope in the mail address to 'Current Resident'. Since I've had good experiences with participation trophies in the past, I opened it and it was a bunch of coupons. Now only my closest confidants know this but I've been unhappy with my razor for a long time so when one of these coupons was for a free razor I decided to plunge bravely into the unknown and order it. Now I've received this email from their service team with the following important line inside:
Please don't hesitate to reach out with any thoughts ...

If I was asking thinklynx questions that have been answered before it would answer me and not tell me to google it. I think that is pretty neat.

I have been creating a Google Doc for my work for when we have to work with ColdFusion for a few months. Here is the current intro:
A Little About ColdFusion: A quote from the internet. "ColdFusion is alive and well in 2015! I've been a CF developer since 1996. I'm still doing it, and still loving it. Anybody who says it's dead, quite honestly, is ignorant at best."
