"Writing, at its best, is a lonely life. Organizations for writers palliate the writer's loneliness but I doubt if they improve his writing. He grows in public stature as he sheds his loneliness and often his work deteriorates. For he does his work alone and if he is a good enough writer he must face eternity, or the lack of it, each day." - Hemingway's Nobel Prize Speech |

What is difficult is the promotion, balancing the public side of a writer's life with the writing. I think that's something a lot of writers are having to face. Writers have become much more public now. |

I am thankful, of course, for the prize and thankful to God for each story, each idea, each word, each day. |

When so many are lonely as seem to be lonely, it would be inexcusably selfish to be lonely alone. |

The Nobel Peace Prize is a powerful message. A durable peace is not a single achievement, but an environment, a process and a commitment. |

It is a remarkable honor to receive a Nobel Prize, because it not only recognizes discoveries, but also their usefulness to the advancement of fundamental science. |

Actually, what will be shown from here to eternity will be Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr cavorting on the beach. 'From Here to Eternity' must have seemed like a chore to its director, Fred Zinnemann. |

Our language has wisely sensed the two sides of being alone. It has created the word loneliness to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word solitude to express the glory of being alone. |

Stephen King’s 20 Rules for Writers
1. First write for yourself, and then worry about the audience. “When you write a story, you’re telling yourself the story. When you rewrite, your main job is taking out all the things that are not the story."
2. Don’t use passive voice. “Timid writers like passive verbs for the same reason that timid lovers like passive partners. The passive voice is safe.”

If a writer of prose knows enough of what he is writing about he may omit things that he knows and the reader, if the writer is writing truly enough, will have a feeling of those things as strongly as though the writer had stated them. The dignity of movement of an ice-berg is due to only one-eighth of it being above water. A writer who omits things because he does not know them only makes hollow places in his writing.
—Ernest Hemingway in Death in the Afternoon

1: To get started, write one true sentence.
Hemingway had a simple trick for overcoming writer's block. In a memorable passage in A Moveable Feast, he writes:
Sometimes when I was starting a new story and I could not get it going, I would sit in front of the fire and squeeze the peel of the little oranges into the edge of the flame and watch the sputter of blue that they made. I would stand and look out over the roofs of Paris and think, "Do not worry. You have always written before and you will write now. All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you kno...

Turn up for work. Discipline allows creative freedom. No discipline equals no freedom. Never stop when you are stuck. You may not be able to solve the problem, but turn aside and write something else. Do not stop altogether. Love what you do. Be honest with yourself. If you are no good, accept it. If the work you are doing is no good, accept it. Don’t hold on to poor work. If it was bad when it went in the drawer it will be just as bad when it comes out. ...

Call it over stimulated chakras, call it being too cerebral, call it introversion, introspection, anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsion, insomnia, dehydration, high blood pressure, call it preoccupation, call it loneliness, call it unsynchronized vibrations or stress. The truth is you think that you can think your way through life and out of this mindset, and continually finding out that you can't. It's not yoga or mediation, it's not pills or constructive hobbies, exercise or organization. You need to let go.

My resignation letter I haven't sent yet: llo Ryan,
I regret to inform you my leaving of the company. I am mentally drained to the point where I no longer feel productive here. I have arrived at the conclusion that I cannot work on computers this much in a routine schedule.
I would love to work something out in the future, I think we have done great work together, however I can no longer continue this job. Sitting for 8 hours, 5 days a week, is something I just cannot do, regardless of location. ...

Your still gonna be seeing his shit everywhere you go until you respect him. Like Chaka & many other old school writers from LA & NY. Only real graff kings know what I mean.
