I attempted to send a picture of the stars to my friend in New York City, who hasn't seen a star in months. I sent it--fully captioned with my intent--without looking at it beforehand.
He received an entirely black sky, without one bright spot/star. He asked if I'm trying to inform him that the universe is dying.
Today I learned that I am FANTASTIC at cheering people up. And using cameras. |

Some white people hate black people, and some white people love black people, some black people hate white people, and some black people love white people. So you see it's not an issue of black and white, it's an issue of Lovers and Haters. |

When I was 18, I was moving to New York to start college at The New School. I had done a year of college in Toronto and wasn't happy there. I didn't have any friends in New York City, but I applied and got in. It was pretty overwhelming, but everyone in New York is so ambitious and creative. |

I miss New York terribly. There is no place like the city. I miss people-watching. I miss the nightlife. I miss the food. There are so many options in New York City. |
Agatha Christie |
It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story. |

Quebec City is the most European of any city in North America; they speak French all the time. There is a part of town called Old Quebec which is really like being in France. The architecture is just gorgeous, food, shopping. I'd say Quebec City is the most beautiful city in North America I've seen. |

He who has seen one cathedral ten times has seen something; he who has seen ten cathedrals once has seen but little; and he who has spent half an hour in each of a hundred cathedrals has seen nothing at all. |

I overanalyze things way too much, to the point where it affects my life. Like, when I'm talking to a boy, I'll overanalyze a text message he sent. And I have to think to myself, 'Just chill out. Some guy sent me a text message. That's all. Don't read something into it that's not there. Just be glad he sent you a text message!' |

At the Golden Globes, they put all the bigger stars in the front; the movie stars in the front, TV actors in the back. But even as a movie star, you can be outseated by a bigger star in any given year. It's kind of hilarious. You have to take it in stride. |

I suppose I started writing seriously at 16 years old. I thought I wrote a novel at 16 and sent it to New York! They sent it back because it wasn't novel. |
Gilbert K. Chesterton |
The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective. |

As mankind grows and triumphs we create our own star. Shinning city lights out into the galaxy. The brighter our star shines the dimmer the rest of the universe appears to us. Approximately 300 billion stars in the galaxy and 12 billion light bulbs on earth. #peopleareweirdorcoolorsomething

In the winter of 1835 and early 1836, two brothers from New York plotted the area now known as REO Town just south of downtown Lansing and named it "Biddle City". This land lay in a floodplain and was underwater during the majority of the year. Nevertheless, the brothers went back to Lansing, New York, to sell plots for the town that did not exist. They told the New Yorkers this new "city" had an area of 65 blocks, a church and a public and academic square. 16 men bought plots in the nonexistent city, and upon reaching the area later that year found they had been scammed. Many in the group too disappointed to stay ended up settling around what is now metropolitan Lansing. Those who stayed quickly renamed the area "Lansing Township" in honor of their home village in New York

How Facebook Keeps Messenger From Crashing On New Year's Eve
On New Year's Eve, millions of people will use Facebook's Messenger app to wish friends and family a 'Happy New Year!' If everything goes smoothly, those messages will reach recipients in fewer than 100 milliseconds, and life will go on. But if the service stalls or fails, a small team of software engineers based in the company's New York City office will have to answer for it.
The article says the team "tested and tweaked the app throughout the year and will soon face their biggest annual performance exam," since Messenger's 1.3...

I had a really weird dream. I think I was in a cab with a friend and we were driving around this city where almost everything was under construction. We got out of the cab and my friend disappeared and I ended up in a park standing around a group of people who was listening to someone speak. A pack of wolves walked by in the distance and one ran up to me and hit my hand with his head as if to greet me or something. I walked toward the wolves and the next thing I remember is I was a woman wandering around this apartment trying to avoid people and there was a tiny fairy person about the size of my hand that I was carrying around. Not sure if I was also a fairy that just wasn't small or if I was human.

We were looking out the window to see the stars and this shooting star came down and was burning up. It was all white and blue and then turned green and then yellow and red and it was all rainbow and beautiful. It burned up right as it got to the apartment roofs. What are the chances that it would stop right before it hit the ground?

I finally did it. I mistook black pepper for cardamom and peppered up my smoothie. Even with the bright lights on. I need sleep. Or it was a stroke of genius, it's delicious.

Taser Offers Free Body Cameras To All US Police (arstechnica.com) An anonymous reader quotes a report from Ars Technica: Taser, the company whose electronic stun guns have become a household name, is now offering a groundbreaking deal to all American law enforcement: free body cameras and a year's worth of access to the company's cloud storage service, Evidence.com. In addition, on Wednesday, the company also announced that it would be changing its name to "Axon" to reflect the company's flagship body camera product. Right now, Axon is the single largest vendor of body cameras in America. It vastly outsells smaller competitors, including VieVu and Digital Ally -- the company has profited $90 million from 2012 through 2016. If the move is successful, Axon could quickly crowd out its rivals...

"If we send a human to a star millions of light years away by the time we get there a human would quite possibly already be there. This is due to technology advancing in the far future allowing us to travel faster than we can today..."
