I had a dream I decided to go to Columbia University and also that I had a sister and that she died. It was disturbing. |

Dolly Parton |
I say, 'Yeah, Taylor Swift.' I think she is a smart, beautiful girl. I think she's making all the right moves. She's got a good head on her shoulders. She's surrounded with wonderful people. Her songs are great. She keeps herself anchored. She knows who she is, and she's living and standing by that. |

When I decided to become a doctor, I was very, very young, when my mother, her seventh child, became pregnant, and she was feeling terrible pain, and I could not know how to help her. And my mother died in front of my eyes, without knowing why, which diagnosis. So I decided to be a doctor. |
Iain De Caestecker |
My mom was always keen I stayed in school and got good grades, and she was always keen for me to do medicine. I used to go to drama classes when I was younger, and she would always take me. But when I got to an age when I decided it was what I wanted to do, when she accepted it, she had actually been the most supportive person ever. |
Morena Baccarin |
My mom is an actress, but she never really pushed me into it, and it was never something I thought I would be doing. She was very happy I decided to, but she certainly doesn't offer me criticism because she knows I'd tell her to shut up! Nobody wants to hear that from their mum! |

When I was 17, I came to the U.S. to study Middle Eastern history and politics at Columbia University. |
Aravind Adiga |
Columbia University, where I went to study in 1993, insisted its undergraduates learn a foreign language, so I discovered French. |
Ben Affleck |
I went to the University of Vermont because I had a kind of unrequited love for this high school girlfriend. She wasn't even at the University but at another school nearby. But I thought if went to a school near her, just maybe... I was really remedial about girls in so many ways. |
Joyce Banda |
What I am saying every day to Malawians is that time has come for us to move from aid to trade. We have picked several sectors that we think we can focus on immediately in order for us to grow our economy. So we have decided to diversify agriculture, we decided to develop our tourism sector, we have decided to develop our mining sector. |
Katie Featherston |
I have plenty of dream roles because there is so much I want to do, but my dream year would be to be in a single-camera comedy and then, on my hiatus, film a little low-budget indie drama. That would be a dream 12-month period. A dream role depends on having good material and working with people that I can learn from. |
Maria Bamford |
My mom is very structured. She gets up, she does her prayers, and she eats her oatmeal with blueberries and Greek yogurt, and she has her prayer list, and she doesn't worry too much about things. |

I had a dream that I was at my parent's house in their office and a balding man in a suit walked up to me with a gun and asked me for directions to a mirror. I told him how to get to the mirror down the hall and he said he didn't get it so I started drawing him a map. My siblings showed up and started drawing maps too and then one of them hit the guy suddenly and we all shoved him into a waffle maker. He turned into a tasty looking waffle which was kind of disturbing. Then I woke up briefly and fell asleep and had another dream. This one was about cannibalism. There were several picnic tables stacked on top of each other but each one had piles of books on top. I climbed up this stack of tables to find a book at the top and then I jumped off and landed in a grassy field. My mom and my sister (I don't have a sister) were there and my mom was trying to keep my sister from trying to eat other humans. She was carrying around a big pepper shaker and trying to pepper people before she attemp...

I had a dream that my mom loved my sister more than me and was not at all trying to hide it. When I confronted her about it, she agreed but made excuses for it. Francis bought her a present and she was rude and rejecting of it.
Also in my dream, the smoke alarm in my house went off, and we went outside and saw that our next-door neighbors' house was burning down. I tried to call the police, but they were being really unhelpful. In the end, I'm pretty sure the wife/mother in the house died, and maybe one or two of the kids, too. I felt partially responsible, but maybe just in a survivors'-guilt way.

I had a dream that I was at a school and there was a kid who I think was a criminal of some sort. He was trying to get the principal of the school to do something for him and the principal refused. This kid then went nuts and started throwing desks and stuff everywhere. For some reason, there was a jail attached to the school. The kid had done something wrong to a bunch of people in jail and the warden decided they could temporarily let them out to get their revenge. Then this kid was running around and hiding in the school and these criminals were trying to hunt him down. He got cornered at some point and got shanked. He died. Then the criminals started just murdering each other and other kids at the school.

Is Physical Law an Alien Intelligence? (nautil.us)
What if alien life were so advanced that its powers were indistinguishable from physics? It's the one-year anniversary of a startling article which appeared in Nautilus magazine. Long-time Slashdot reader wjcofkc writes:
Caleb Scharf, astronomer and the director of the multidisciplinary Columbia Astrobiology Center at Columbia University presents an intriguing thought experiment.

I had one dream where I was on a beach or a field or maybe it was both but I was flying around on some kind of gliding machine that caught a strong breeze. It didn't have a motor or anything so it hit the ground eventually and there were some people there and they invited us to go see their cabin and then the one guy turned out to just be completely crazy. Like you could not predict anything he was about to do. He might try to bake you a cake one second and kill you the next. It was disturbing and we tried to get away as fast as we could and he said he would follow us and come see us later. There was a woman there with him who was trying to tell him to stop doing things all the time but it was so mind-shatteringly unpredictable. Then I had some other dream that I was dressed as a doctor and trying to avoid this person that wanted to ask me out.

I had a dream that something was wrong with my brain and I went to the doctor and they said they had to drill into my skull. They drugged me and I wasn't on the operating table yet so I was stumbling around the room and then I felt myself become paralyzed and slowly lost the ability to hear what they were saying, which was worrisome because it sounded like they were giving me instructions. The drugs kept me from feeling pain but it was still disturbing because I could still feel everything they were doing.
