I also know that in the second movie, the sequel, Eric made some huge advances with the robot suit. That just made it even better. You put the suit on and moved your arms then the robot's arms would move in sync with yours. |

There was a lot of Southern Baptist preachers and some yelling ones but mostly we had a pastor who didn't scream and I found a lot of comfort and joy and peace as a child hearing the Bible. |

Real estate sales was perfect training for the experience to go into public life because you learn to accept rejection, learn to meet new people, learn to work with people and find common ground. That's the way you sell houses... that's also the way you win over constituency. |

All cultures are different. Some commit genocide. Some are uniquely peaceful. Some frequent bathhouses in groups. Some don't show each other the soles of their shoes or like pictures taken of them. Some have enormous hunting festivals or annual stretches when nobody speaks. Some don't use electricity. |

In the real estate business you learn more about people, and you learn more about community issues, you learn more about life, you learn more about the impact of government, probably than any other profession that I know of. |

I am very grateful to the electronic world for making my life easier, but there is something about holding a book - the smell and the world of association. Even when e-books are perfected, as they surely will be, it will be like being in bed with a very well-made robot rather than a warm, soft, human being whom you love. |

Thank you... motion sensor hand towel machine. You never work, so I just end up looking like I'm waving hello to a wall robot. |

True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost. |
Adam Hamilton |
As a pastor, I have a deep desire to lead people to God and encourage people to pray, read the Bible, and carry their faith into every part of their lives. |

I am a pastor, and I teach and preach the Bible to my congregation every week. But the Bible is not a manufacturer's handbook. Neither is it a science textbook nor a guidebook for public policy. |

Bizarre futurism thought: Imagine a future where tech education is a mandatory component of schooling for all ages. Now, combine that with some kind of companion robot that kids receive when they are young and custom upgrade as they learn how throughout their life. Does the robot's development become an external symbol of the child's internal development? Would people have robot envy? Would rich assholes hire people to mod their robots in ways they don't understand (definitely)? STRANGE!

Secretary of state call #1: Robot says 1-7 and 9 are options to hear the robot talk more, so I hit 8 and it says it's confused and so I keep hitting 8 and it says "agents are busy, try again later" SoS calls #2 and #3: I hit 8888 and the robot says "agents are busy, try again later" SoS call #4: I hit 8888 and the robot says it will put me in the queue and then 5 minutes later it says "we can call you back when someone is available" ... so now I'm waiting. It's been 45 minutes so far...

I had a dream that I was in my friends new apartment and it was all dark and dank. We went up a couple floors of stairs and into his apartment and then I kept opening doors and going down dark hallways and the apartment just kept going deeper into the building. Eventually, I ended up underground in some secret tunnels and I saw giant robots and I was sneaking around trying to find a way out. I ended up running into some glass room that was really bright and filled with huge machines. A robot ran in and I think was trying to kill me and I woke up. Then I had another dream that I was in some building that kept changing shapes and ran into some person I used to know.

New Study Finds It's Harder To Turn Off a Robot When It's Begging For Its Life
An anonymous reader quotes a report from The Verge: [A] recent experiment by German researchers demonstrates that people will refuse to turn a robot off if it begs for its life. In the study, published in the open access journal PLOS One, 89 volunteers were recruited to complete a pair of tasks with the help of Nao, a small humanoid robot. The participants were told that the tasks (which involved answering a series of either / or questions, like "Do you prefer pasta or pizza?"; and organizing a weekly schedule) were to improve Nao's learning algorithms. But this was just a cover story, and the real test came af...

There are a lot of things that would work instead. Depends on what you need. Depends on how you learn. Do you need college to learn? That's a different question than "do you need college". Different Universities have different atmospheres. I knew I could learn anything I wanted reading textbooks and recently published papers, but when you live somewhere where no one cares it's kind of depressing. That was one of the motivating factors for why I chose to go to graduate school.

Scott Adams on Robot Unemployment: As robots take more jobs from humans we can expect a massive unemployment problem. Let's start planning for that now. I'll limit this discussion to the United States just to keep things simple, but the concepts should be applicable everywhere.
I'm about to describe a huge government program. Please don't leave comments saying huge government programs are never a good idea unless you have a better idea that doesn't involve the government.
So let's say the plan I'm about to propose has about a 20% chance of working. That still beats the do-nothing option of ...
