Jackson Benson believes Hemingway used autobiographical details as framing devices about life in general—not only about his life. For example, Benson postulates that Hemingway used his experiences and drew them out with "what if" scenarios: "what if I were wounded in such a way that I could not sleep at night? What if I were wounded and made crazy, what would happen if I were sent back to the front?"[171] Writing in "The Art of the Short Story", Hemingway explains: "A few things I have found to be true. If you leave out important things or events that you know about, the story is strengthened. If you leave or skip something because you do not know it, the story will be worthless. The test of any story is how very good the stuff that you, not your editors, omit." |

Hemingway had a simple trick for overcoming writer's block. In a memorable passage in A Moveable Feast, he writes:

If a writer of prose knows enough of what he is writing about he may omit things that he knows and the reader, if the writer is writing truly enough, will have a feeling of those things as strongly as though the writer had stated them. I like the psyche distinction. How do you know you did everything you needed to do? What did you need to do?
I always feel like my life would be completely different if I had made a few different decisions and I don't know if I'd be happier or not in those other scenarios. The stress for me comes from trying to avoid missing the decisions that would lead to better scenarios. Every day the things I do have opportunity costs.

People write here about microplastics in the sea. I'll write about how I forgot my phone in the lost and found room. It all started a night before when I forgot my laptop charger in the law library. I was working with other students for Complexity homework. I was also stressed because of the AIDA project and this made me forget things and be very tired. I didn't even realize I forgot my charger until the end of the next day when my battery was low. The deadline for AIDA had just been pushed back again so I didn't need my laptop that night. Next morning I went to the law library, at the lost and found room to search for my charger. My excitement when I found it was so great that I didn't realize I left my phone on the desk there. Luckily, immediately after leaving the room I could sense that something was wrong. I felt incomplete without my phone. So, very embarrassed I turned back and faced the person in the room. I was recently thinking about aging. It's been my opinion for a while that we should just accept that we are going to grow old and die and that we have to get over it. I have now heard the argument, however, that the things that happen to us while we age are not unlike the things that happen to us when we get diseases and die. They went on to say that we should treat them the same and we should work on curing aging. This isn't to say that we should live forever, but that the flaws in the mechanisms that replicate our cells could be fixed or assisted and that we could live for a much longer time. I think it's interesting to think about and I agree that it is worth pursuing. Imagine if the life expectancy doubled. What great things could people accomplish if they had more time?

they do but the imporant thing is trusting that you are making the right decisions. you wont ever know the outcome or results before picking, so instead of being fearful of decisions, you must be confident and be a decider. 'let the chips fall where they may'
take the opportunities offered, they only knock once. but i have given up some awesome opportunities like being moved to LA to work for a web company, but i dont regret not doing it because it was the right decision at the time to turn it down. i wouldnt be who i am today if i went there, and it might be better, but i chose to stay and finish my album and im happy i did.

Dreams I've had recently:
-I found out both my parents were having affairs with people. My mom's had been going on since I was 7 and was with some guy she met while wading into water in Mexico. He taught our whole family how to snorkel or something like that. My dad's was with some woman named Linda he met at the indoor pool where he swims laps.
-My sister got back together with her ex-girlfriend and that same day they got married at a courthouse.
-I found my iPod. (Then I found it in real life that day.)
