Make your interests gradually wider and more impersonal, until bit by bit the walls of the ego recede, and your life becomes increasingly merged in the universal life. An individual human existence should be like a river — small at first, narrowly contained within its banks, and rushing passionately past rocks and over waterfalls. Gradually the river grows wider, the banks recede, the waters flow more quietly, and in the end, without any visible break, they become merged in the sea, and painlessly lose their individual being. |

I do not yet know why plants come out of the land or float in streams, or creep on rocks or roll from the sea. I am entranced by the mystery of them, and absorbed by their variety and kinds. Everywhere they are visible yet everywhere occult. |
Geoffrey Canada |
Banks used to open and operate between 10 and 3. They operated 10 to 3. They were closed for lunch hour. Now, who can bank between 10 and 3? The unemployed. They don't need banks. They got no money in the banks. Who created that business model? Right? And it went on for decades. You know why? Because they didn't care. It wasn't about the customers. |

On the videos for '1234' and 'My Moon My Man' I wanted to make the songs visible. And, really, what way can you make sound visible other than good old naive dancing? I was working with a choreographer, but I'm not a dancer. Any notion of elegance is impossible with me. |
Richard Dawkins |
My eyes are constantly wide open to the extraordinary fact of existence. Not just human existence, but the existence of life and how this breathtakingly powerful process, which is natural selection, has managed to take the very simple facts of physics and chemistry and build them up to redwood trees and humans. |
Alain Badiou |
A Truth is the subjective development of that which is at once both new and universal. New: that which is unforeseen by the order of creation. Universal: that which can interest, rightly, every human individual, according to his pure humanity. |
Ernst Haas |
Without touching my subject I want to come to the moment when, through pure concentration of seeing, the composed picture becomes more made than taken. Without a descriptive caption to justify its existence, it will speak for itself - less descriptive, more creative; less informative, more suggestive - less prose, more poetry. |
Alex Campbell |
Over the past few years, many of us have increasingly begun to question the direction and meaning of our society as it has developed over the past several centuries. |
Michelangelo |
The best artist has that thought alone Which is contained within the marble shell; The sculptor's hand can only break the spell To free the figures slumbering in the stone. |
James Balog |
Climate change should not fundamentally be seen as a political or partisan issue, but it has been turned into a political football primarily by the climate deniers who have a vested interested in maintaining the status quo. That includes certain industrial interests, financial interests and political interests. |
Saint Teresa of Avila |
In a state of grace, the soul is like a well of limpid water, from which flow only streams of clearest crystal. Its works are pleasing both to God and man, rising from the River of Life, beside which it is rooted like a tree. |

I had a dream that I was in my car with my co-worker and he was driving. We were driving out of a cemetery and into the road. He started to turn back into the cemetery. I said don't go that way. He said oh okay. Then he proceeded to go that way anyway and he got the car stuck between a river and some graves. Then the car started falling into the river and he was trying to get it out and made it worse and worse and then all the bodies and coffins ended up in the river with us mixed up in the mess.

the world is spiraling quickly to an even wider and more apparent gap in wealth .those who get the money now are going to set themselves and their families up for a better life in the next 100 years. those who stay poor, like me and almost everyone i know, will find it difficult to switch classes in the future. pick your side.

Human thinking is born out of some sort of neurological defect in the human body. Therefore, anything that is born out of human thinking is destructive. _______ Religion has invented that wonderful thing called charity. It is the most vicious and vulgar thing that we have done. Nature has provided us with a bounty. But we are individually responsible for the inequities of the world. _______ ...

There is no teaching of mine, and never shall be one. 'Teaching' is not the word for it. 'Teaching' implies a method or a system, a technique or a new way of thinking to be applied in order to bring about a transformation in your way of life. What I am saying is outside the field of teachability; it is simply a description of the way I am functioning. It is just a description of the natural state of man -- that is the way you, stripped of the machinations of thought, are ...

Humanity stands to be profoundly affected by science and technology in the future. We envision the possibility of broadening human potential by overcoming aging, cognitive shortcomings, involuntary suffering, and our confinement to planet Earth. We believe that humanity?s potential is still mostly unrealized. There are possible scenarios that lead to wonderful and exceedingly worthwhile enhanced human conditions. We recognize that humanity faces serious risks, especially from the misuse of new technologies. There are possible realistic scenarios that lead to the loss of most, or even all, of what we hold valuable. Some of these scenarios are drastic, others are subtle. Although all progress is change, not all change is progress. ...

I don't even know what my dreams were last night. I had two apartments in different parts of the city and one had a really cool layout but it had no windows except the one in the bathroom and it was like a tunnel cave and you had to walk through all the rooms to get to any other room. I also was dreaming that I was running around with these people that were not quite human and they lived in this forest and were running from some other human-like things that wanted to kill them. We ran through this forest and then through this field and found these giant frogs that make you hallucinate for some reason. I do not know why but then we were running around with frogs and it looked like we were running through a river but it was actually a field and I think the people chasing us started hallucinating and got lost.

Something that is hard to reconcile is the experience of impersonal and personal love. Nature is very impersonal, and affection is very personal. I think often we confuse affection with love. We create exclusive relationships with others that often get overrided by our natural instincts- maybe a loving relationship is sabotaged bc someone ?fitter? in many ways came along and appealed to you as an animal. And then we say ?I thought we loved each other!? People use affection to justify all sorts of sacrifices and nature to justify all sorts of cruelty. Still, the world goes round and love exists on both a personal and impersonal level. You love your sister and you love the atoms which make up your sister which also make up the table in your kitchen and your worst enemy. And you experience that love by the same source that also allows you to evaluate which people and activities are worth your energy and which you reject. I don?t think reality is a matter of love vs. nature- - I don?t thi...

Well also that life still requires that we ground ourselves with relationships with others bc the authority of human nature demands it. But if you are trying to live without conforming to others values it's it may make you more antisocial than is healthy
