I think there are probably some brilliant ideas that have existed in the minds of people long ago who didn't realize they were brilliant. |

Eleanor Roosevelt |
Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people. |
James Balog |
You know, we humans are programmed to think that big changes on the Earth happened a long time ago, or will happen a long time in the future. What we don't realize is that they actually can happen right now. Right here, right now, while we're alive, in our own hours and days and months and years. |
Edward Ball |
There was a uniqueness to the American case of slavery. 10 million people, a conservative estimate, were brought to America... hundreds of people were set up in work camps, and hereditary-forced labor was put in place. That's a very different thing than the personal slavery that existed elsewhere. |
Shawn Fanning |
Well, user feedback was excellent. Even when the software didn't work at all, there were few people who were avid users, and there were people who were just sending excellent feedback and excellent ideas. |
Lee Iacocca |
You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can't get them across, your ideas won't get you anywhere. |
Joyce Meyer |
When we believe the best of people, we let go of each thing they do that is hurtful to us. And we choose to think things like, 'I don't believe they meant to hurt me.' 'Maybe they're having a bad day or don't feel well.' 'They probably don't even realize how they sound.' |
Neil Gaiman |
You get ideas from daydreaming. You get ideas from being bored. You get ideas all the time. The only difference between writers and other people is we notice when we're doing it. |
Mortimer Adler |
Think how different human societies would be if they were based on love rather than justice. But no such societies have ever existed on earth. |
Arnold Schwarzenegger |
I welcome and seek your ideas, but do not bring me small ideas; bring me big ideas to match our future. |
Charles Eames |
Ideas are cheap. Always be passionate about ideas and communicating those ideas and discoveries to others in the things you make. |

When Petunia reveals that she knows what Dementors are (in the 5th book), she blushes and says "I heard that...awful boy telling her years ago" and Harry angrily says "If you mean my dad, just say his name". But after you read the 7th book, you discover that she didn't mean James at all. She was referring to Snape. It's a brilliant reference that frames the relationship between Lily, Snape, and Petunia, seeming like a useless remark from both characters until you read the last book.

People write here about microplastics in the sea. I'll write about how I forgot my phone in the lost and found room. It all started a night before when I forgot my laptop charger in the law library. I was working with other students for Complexity homework. I was also stressed because of the AIDA project and this made me forget things and be very tired. I didn't even realize I forgot my charger until the end of the next day when my battery was low. The deadline for AIDA had just been pushed back again so I didn't need my laptop that night. Next morning I went to the law library, at the lost and found room to search for my charger. My excitement when I found it was so great that I didn't realize I left my phone on the desk there. Luckily, immediately after leaving the room I could sense that something was wrong. I felt incomplete without my phone. So, very embarrassed I turned back and faced the person in the room. She was amazed at how I left my phone in there after just recovering an...

Last Sunday I drank a coffee at 9pm, and then took a Sudafed at 11. I tried to go to bed around 2-3 after watching boardwalk empire, and obviously could not (Sudafed + coffee = kind of speedy). I should mention for a half hour before I went to sleep, I read all about the real life mobsters form that era, murder inc, etc. (what am I going to find out that I didn't last week from wikipedia?).
Anyway, I finally fell asleep around 5, and had a wonderful stress dream (nightmare some might call it, but I don't frighten easily) where I was shot in the neck, but in order to make sense of it and the angles of blood spurt or something, I had to realize a linear basis for the entire system of 1920s mobsters. Not that this was a conscious task that I had to solve, it was how my brain was trying t...

I'd like to know the percentage of old ideas that were good and the percentage of new ideas that are good at any given moment. On tuesdays are we more likely as a species to come up with better ideas than we were in all time before?

Most people who don't want to do the PhD realize that they can leave and make a lot of money early on. The people who really want to do research and stay usually value money less.

I had a dream where I was leading a group of people that I think I had known a long time ago to an apartment where some relative of mine lived. I think they wanted to kill my relative for some reason and they didn't know I was related to this person so I was pretending to be on the group's side. I knew that if I stopped leading this group to my relatives apartment they'd attack me too. So I led them almost to the apartment but then I had a chance to disappear when they weren't looking so I ran into some random building and I found a way to climb up the wall. I was trying to get into a corner and hide and wait until they all disappeared. Some military-looking vehicle passed by and people shined lights in the windows but no one could see me because I was high enough up.
