I had my idea of what the series finale of 'King of the Hill' would be, but that's not what the actual series finale was. |

Child labor and poverty are inevitably bound together and if you continue to use the labor of children as the treatment for the social disease of poverty, you will have both poverty and child labor to the end of time. |

If you eat a lot of starchy foods, introduce a vegetable once a week, then twice a week, and then three times a week. Slowly fill your diet with new flavors. By the time you're ready to let go of whatever it is you want to let go of, you've got a full menu. |

I don't watch a lot of T.V. I only watch things via Netflix, so I only watch the things that I'm choosing to watch. |

That, we encourage, and I think we're doing a pretty good job with the website and also the DVD, like the first season came out and the second season's being prepared now. |

It's not leftovers that are wasteful, but those who either don't know what to do with them or can't be bothered. |

Leftovers in their less visible form are called memories. Stored in the refrigerator of the mind and the cupboard of the heart. |

The stakes are high on every film now because there's the opening weekend. The first week is extremely crucial; increasingly, films are being judged in terms of opening day, opening weekend, then first week. People are going berserk promoting their films. |
Francis Quarles |
Put off thy cares with thy clothes; so shall thy rest strengthen thy labor, and so thy labor sweeten thy rest. |
Jim Valvano |
If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special. |

There's a hole that takes you to other holes on other planets where evil aliens enslave other humans across the galaxy. Then earth fights them with p90s which are way more effective than laser staffs. It's kind of campy, and has some humor. Then they made Stargate Universe to capitalize on the BSG stuff, so it's super dark (one of the characters gets ALS haha). Season 3 finale of BSG might be the best tv I've ever seen.

Former anthropology student here: Actually, livestock was given to families for daughters because the family was losing a worker. Dudes were compensating families for the loss of labor, while themselves gaining a worker and the ability to generate new workers. The social contract of marriage has historically been about pooling/exchanging labor and resources, not sex. There have always been other ways to buy sex.

Scott Adams on Robot Unemployment: As robots take more jobs from humans we can expect a massive unemployment problem. Let's start planning for that now. I'll limit this discussion to the United States just to keep things simple, but the concepts should be applicable everywhere.
I'm about to describe a huge government program. Please don't leave comments saying huge government programs are never a good idea unless you have a better idea that doesn't involve the government.
So let's say the plan I'm about to propose has about a 20% chance of working. That still beats the do-nothing option of ...

The history of marriage and the history of sex then suggest to me that individuals value sex, but society actually values labor.

I had a dream that it was all dark and I woke up and turned off my watch. Then I actually woke up and my watch was still on and it wasn't dark.
