I wish that I was able to love everyone, even people that don't do good things. I want to believe that everyone has good in them, but sometimes there are people that do terrible things to you and it's so difficult to override that natural instinct to dislike them. What is the best way to deal with someone you know is bad for you/your self esteem/your confidence when you have to work with them every single day?

Financially well-off and well-educated people will expend their time and energy (which they'll say is very valuable and precious given how financially well-off and well-educated they are) crafting arguments for why we should empathize with the likes of elon musk, rather than literally any group of people who have nothing.
Does this say anything about the limits of human empathy? Well-off and well-educated white people see themselves in the likes of elon musk, the point being that they can empathize with an *individual,* and one who has had significant media coverage and public discourse due to *perceived successes* they wouldn't mind attaining for themselves. I had a dream that involved this shopping center a lot for some reason. I went there with my parents and I went there with my violin to play a few times and it seemed like the past because I had my parent's old car. But then also in grad school, ppl were texting me asking where I was and I was like always at one of the places in the center. One was a steak n shake and ppl would text me and be like "where are you" and I'd tell them I was there and they asked me why and I was like I love milkshakes what don't you understand. And then I remember doing academic things and traveling with the lab but then having to leave one place early to go to France. One person knew that I knew this one guy that died and she was like asking me to tell other people what he had said to me and I was like I don't know. I think you guys know everything. I don't think he told me anything he didn't tell you but this really stressed me out for some reason that she thought I knew more. And I was sad and ppl didn'...

That is so cool. I don't know the answer to your question. If it exists independently of the person wouldn't it just be like a hologram or something? And if it exists relative to the person then everyone just has to have a device that messes with their perception.

Interaction becomes so competitive. People mock each other like that is humor when it's really a way to lessen the intensity of the effect a person has on you. When someone reaches out, anything less than an equal return is a blow to your ego's importance. The more people recognize you, the less you need to try and win alliances so you can reject people who make you feel less sexy.

Of course, you can’t stick electrodes on every person watching TV and browsing Facebook. But you don’t need to. The results from experiments on small neuro-focus groups can be used to influence voters who aren’t being sampled themselves. If, for example, biodata reveals that liberal women over 50 are fearful when they see an ad about illegal immigration, campaigns that want to stoke such fear can broadcast that same message to millions of people with similar demographic and social profiles.
