The task is to investigate speech sounds in relation to the meanings with which they are invested, i.e., sounds viewed as signifiers, and above all to throw light on the structure of the relation between sounds and meaning. |
Harriet Ann Jacobs |
When they told me my new-born babe was a girl, my heart was heavier than it had ever been before. Slavery is terrible for men; but it is far more terrible for women. |
Russell Baker |
Usually, terrible things that are done with the excuse that progress requires them are not really progress at all, but just terrible things. |
Tony Campolo |
When leading evangelicals say terrible things about Islam, evil things about Islam, terrible things about Muhammad, they ought to be ashamed of themselves. |
John Irving |
I write the last line, and then I write the line before that. I find myself writing backwards for a while, until I have a solid sense of how that ending sounds and feels. You have to know what your voice sounds like at the end of the story, because it tells you how to sound when you begin. |
Kobe Bryant |
I'm extremely willful to win, and I respond to challenges. Scoring titles and stuff like that... it sounds, well, I don't care how it sounds - to me, scoring comes easy. It's not a challenge to me to win the scoring title, because I know I can. |
Luc Ferrari |
So the ideology was that: use sounds as instruments, as sounds on tape, without the causality. It was no longer a clarinet or a spring or a piano, but a sound with a form, a development, a life of its own. |
Robert Irwin |
For the next week, try the best you can to pay attention to sounds. You will start hearing all these sounds coming in. Once you let them in, you've already done the first and most critical thing, you've honored that information by including it. And by doing that, you've actually changed the world. |
Evan Daugherty |
Very often, things that people may think come from the writer, very often don't. There's a lot of cooks in the kitchen when it comes to making a movie. When you hear a line of dialogue that sounds kind of tinny, it's pretty easy to cite the screenwriter. But there's a lot of stuff that goes into making a movie. |
Kate Bosworth |
At the time, when you're being dissected and judged it's pretty brutal, but in hindsight it's great and - it sounds cliched - you do come out the other side better and stronger. |

That sounds pretty cool. You would have to build something on it though? Which would probably cost a lot.

Oh, that sounds pretty funny. That was always the kind of show I could only watch like 1 or 2 episodes of in a row max.

Those nested dreams are the wackiest. That all sounds pretty funny, cool, and interesting overall though :)

Nice. It shows that this is related to a post you made a month ago about detecting weapons with Wifi. All sounds like pretty cool stuff.

Idea time: when you type or receive a text, there should be sounds that are played for each emoji. You can set the sounds yourself and they're just like 1-2 second clips. That'd be fun.

I had a dream I was with my partner and we had to go home but she was too tired so I was carrying here and rollerblading (sounds hard, right?) and it was dark out. A meteorite flew down from the sky and made a large crash just up ahead of us and I thought "we should go check for rare metals because those are worth some money," but then we got up there and all these people were sifting through and it looked like it was just legos. Pretty disappointing.
Seems like I think too much about money. Not sure what the rest is about.

i'm interested in slang than when you say it sounds old and silly and highly associated with one decade or phase of culture (e.g., groovy) and slang that I'm pretty sure is just as old but doesn't sound silly with such association (e.g., idk, there's gotta be something slangy that's old, would something like "speak of the devil" or "mother fucker" or "god damn it" count or are those not that old) and those in the middle (e.g., bees knees). What if the old and not silly are actually
