Reed: "[Drop the ball] is a weird expression. Because it means that, but it also refers to New Years. And then if you pluralize it, it means something totally different." |

Gilbert K. Chesterton |
The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective. |

Once the referee throws the ball in the air, it's either your ball or their ball and you have to just take your shot. |
Mother Teresa |
We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. |
Johnny Depp |
If there's any message to my work, it is ultimately that it's OK to be different, that it's good to be different, that we should question ourselves before we pass judgment on someone who looks different, behaves different, talks different, is a different color. |
Josh Gad |
Melissa McCarthy just opened this new movie, 'Identity Thief,' and Rex Reed, who's a known critic, wrote a scathing commentary on her weight. I think that weight designation is one of the last frontiers of bullying. I don't know what the right 'ism' for it is, but I think that there's a level of that that's happening that's certainly not okay. |
Aeschylus |
He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. |
Janet Echelman |
In Portugal, my sculpture 'She Changes' refers to the town's fishing history, to the era of seafaring trade and discovery. The contemporary site is industrial, surrounded by red and white striped smokestacks, which is mirrored in the pattern of the sculpture. |

The oil under Libya is the champagne of oil, drop for drop the world's most valuable. |

I'm a big believer in what's called personalized medicine, which refers to customizing your health care to your specific needs based on your physiology, genetics, value system and unique conditions. |
Lizzy Caplan |
It's weird, It's really weird to be called a breakout star. And some people are referring to my show as the new 'Friends', which I can't really even wrap my head around. |

Voldemort's NAME, for heaven's sake. In French, "vol-" means "escape," "-de-" means "from" and "-mort" means "death." His entire name is a mashup of the phrase "escape from death." Alternatively, in Latin, "vol" means "wish", "de" means "of", and "mort" means "death". So in Latin, Voldemort is "death wisher" or "one who wishes death". Tie that in with the French translation meaning "escape from death", and J.K. Rowling is a genius on so many levels. "Vol" can also be thief, or theft, too; both stealing from death, and stealing death itself.

I had a dream that I was in this weird place where gravity didn't work exactly the same and there were huge grassy hills that had sections that hung out over the edges with nothing underneath. I think I was playing soccer or something and the ball was under one of the ledges and I ran after it and kicked it and it hit the underside of the ledge. Someone else was playing with me and they just flew up into the air and flew away and then I was confused about why they left so I grabbed the soccer ball and flew after them but then I think they realized the soccer ball was a bomb and then I was flying after them with the bomb and they were scared. Then I woke up.

It's interesting when someone says "I don't know about that one" because sometimes it means "I'm skeptical about that one" but other times it literally means "I'm not aware of that"

If we do nothing to reduce our carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, by the end of this century the Earth will be as hot as it was 50 million years ago in the early Eocene, according to a new study out today in the journal Nature Communications. This period -- roughly 15 million years after dinosaurs went extinct and 49.8 million years before modern humans appeared on the scene -- was 16F to 25F warmer than the modern norm. [...] During the Eocene, it took more atmospheric CO2 to influence temperatures than it does today. In fact, if we don't change our behavior, 2100 will be as hot as the Eocene with much less atmospheric CO2 than was present at the time. A hotter sun means we get more bang for our CO2 buck. "Climate change denialists often mention that CO2 was high in the past, that it was warm in the past, so this means there's nothing to worry about," said lead study author Gavin Foster, a researcher in isotope geochemistry and paleoceanography at the United Kingdom's University of Sout...

The passenger pigeon went extinct in 1898. That means there are no living humans today that have seen one.
Crazy how every hundred years or so the world gets a whole new set of people.

Another psychological approach to understanding people?s involvement with money was offered in a financial magazine. This article (Sullivan, 1994) presented a classification of money personalities based on a survey of 2,000 people?s ?inner financial life.? It divided people into seven personality classifications as follows: 1) Hunters, who are characterized by an aggressive attitude toward the making spending and investing of money and who tend to have unsettled personal lives and a higher than average ...

Pirate Bay Founder Launches Anonymous Domain Registration Service
Former Pirate Bay spokesperson and co-founder Peter Sunde has just announced his latest venture. Keeping up his fight for privacy on the Internet, he's launching a new company called Njalla, that helps site operators to shield their identities from prying eyes. The name Njalla refers to the traditional hut that Sami people use to keep predators at bay. It's built on a tall stump of a tree or pole and is used to store food or other goods. On the Internet, Njalla helps to keep people's domain names private. While anonymizer services aren't anything new, Sunde's company takes a different approach compared to most of the competition. With Njalla, customers don't buy the domain names themselves, they let the company do it for ...
